In order to perform CFD simulations of pilot or industrial scale boilers, one has to rely on
RANS or LES simulation methods. Both these simulation methods are based on some sort of modelling of the small scales. E.g., turbulent viscosity is typically modelled by a k-epsilon or RSM model, while turbulent homogeneous combustion may be modelled by an EDC, EDM or TFM model. All these models are at relatively advanced stage. For turbulent heterogeneous combustion, which inevitably involves mass and heat transfer to and from a reacting particle, there are however just a few and rather simplistic models available. The objective of this WP is to use the results obtained in WP1 and WP2 in order to develop improved models for the reactive particle-turbulence coupling. This model should then be implemented into the numerical tool which will be used in WP4.

This WP will be very closely linked with WP1 as the results obtained in WP1 (and WP2) will be the foundation for the RANS/LES model developed and implemented. The results from WP2 will be used to verify the model implementation in Fluent. The model developed in WP3 will be used in the simulations in WP4.
